First of all: The Brabham fan car was never banned… Ecclestone as teammanager never put the car in competition again under pressure from the other teamowners. Ecclestone was reorganising F1 and couldn’t alienate the other teams. Second: according to Gordon Murray, the designer of the fancar, it was impossible for the fan to throw stuff from the rear because it was designed to eject foreign objects to the side of the car.

i heard it was because the fan used to suck up stones and stuff and then fire them out the back of the car at high speed, so the driver behind would end up getting showered in a spray of rocks.
The Brabham fan car used to suck all the air out of all the other drivers’ lungs if they traveled too close to the back of it..which is why it was banned!!! Oh yes indeed!
Back in those days a good driver could push his car to a winning pace even if it was far from being the best.Today it’s pretty much impossible to win if you’re not in a Ferrari or Renault. That sucks.Racing was better before.More unpredictable and exciting.
Great great video really! Very inspiring for me to see this clip because I really like the Lotus 78 and 79 of colin chapman plus my racing hero of all time is none other than the Mr. Versatile himself, the magnificent Mario Andretti! I wish I could have a copy of this one. Very inspiring indeed. Thanks a lot!

Sounds like a big time conflict of interest to have the person running F1 also be a car owner.

That, and it was just too good for the others.
